The Camera

DSC-S70 Camera

We got a Christmas present back in 2000 - a new digital camera. We had been wanting a decent camera for a while and it seemed like a digital camera would be good for an amateur to experiment on and not have to worry about the cost of failed experiments. After much research, I decided to get a Sony DSC-S70 3.3 megapixel camera.

Some of the features I like are:

  1. Sony Memory Stick - This is the memory used by the camera on which to store the images. We bought a 64MB stick which holds up to 50 high resolution shots. (By high resolution I mean that the pictures print out very well on A4 size paper - It prints virtually photograph quality on photo-grade paper at A4 size). An added bonus is that the camera also acts as a Memory Stick reader/writer - I can store computer files on the sticks and transfer them from computer to computer.
  2. USB computer interface - This is very fast for file transfer. It takes me about 2-3 minutes to transfer the 64MB. I can transfer to my lap-top while I'm out in the field and then keep on clicking :-)
  3. Carl Zeiss lens - Apparently this is a very high quality lense. Being an amateur, I wouldn't know, but the results look excellent to me.
  4. Overall Picture Quality - The Sony seemed to produce the sharpest and brightest results when compared to other makes similar models.

Photos On the Web

Fortunately, photographs displayed on a VDU do not need to be of very high resolution compared to that of photos to be printed. So, all the photos on this site I have reduced the resolution so they don't take as long to download and display in your browser. Those of you who want a copy at "print" resolution will have to request one from me.

Even so, the photos could take a while to download and display in your browser - especially if there are a lot of them on one page. So, I have created a "thumbnail" page. Just click on a thumbnail photo on the page to see that photo at a higher resolution.

I have thousands of photos on my computer - I can't display them all but I will pick out a random selection of what I think are the better ones. I will be updating the selection regularly so come back often to see the latest.
